SPRING IS HERE!

WELCOME TO JARJEER MULE AND DONKEY REFUGE WHERE ACTIONS ARE BASED ON ETHICAL VALUES RATHER THAN PERSONAL GAIN

Everything we do is only possible because of our dedicated staff team. Jarjeer would not succeed by relying on volunteers. The work is hard, it requires strength and equine handling skill. We have it in abundance from our men who have developed not only skills but a rapport with all our rescues.

Here is Khalid with one of the horses saved from the slaughterhouse who is expected to foal within the next month!

We face the forthcoming year with mixed emotions! Firstly sheer amazement at what has been achieved this past year as the whole team has pulled together to meet the continuing demand to care for the abandonned, the disabled and the elderly working animals. Jarjeer is now home to 280 donkeys mules and horses. The Refuge never envisaged saving horses as we genuinely believed there were other facilities to care for them. The pandemic and the earthquake changed everything and we can now say that we are a very large retirement home for these working animals and thankfully are recognised internationally. Secondly, our running costs have soared beyond all recognition, the photograph below is a weekly delivery quite separate from sugar beet, bran and medical supplies. the team remains indebted to our regular donors.

Make this a season to remember by preserving our land for the future.

The growth has been rapid and we have built 54 stables and barns. The legal battle concerning the road that runs the length of out land has been won! It is confirmed as a private road and our equines can now use it as a safe running track. Thanks to the kindness of two charitable foundations we can now purchase a functioning ambulance, more about that later. We now intend to have live webcams on our land so the work of the Refuge can be seen day and night on our website. Whilst Charles owns the land we now have to have retrospective planning permission. We have an architect drawing the plans at this very moment. That is essential so that on Charles’ demise the land may be left to immediate family on the understanding that it may never be sold. Jarjeer will continue and here is a link to a You Tube video which explains everything.
